LaborBerlin is happy to invite you all on the 7th and 8th of September to Laurence Favre’s presentation at S.P.A.C.E. in Wiesenstraße 29, the residency space that LaborBerlin is running in the context of the SPECTRAL project.

Laurence Favre will present her installation Butterfly Stories: Malaise.
The installation is part of a wider project in search of a speculative decolonized archive through the creation and projection of images that challenge conceptual binary oppositions such as presence/absence, visible/invisible, moving/still, real/fictional, living/dead, by summoning the ghosts.
As a starting point, butterflies from natural history museums are photographed on celluloid film. Their images are copied using various techniques and exposure to light, including UV, to which butterflies are sensitive. The new images are then screened onto the fabric normally used to capture insects. Here the new specimens experience a double reality: caught on the surface, and making their way out.
Malaise is the name of the tent-like structure made of polyester netting used to trap insects. In French, it means unease, discomfort, awkwardness.
