Sonntag, Büscherhöfchen 2 / 16mm to DCP/ no dialogue / 13’ / 2014

A private house in the Bergisches Land on Sunday. Surrounded by unremarkable single-family homes, the sunlit estate with ist yellow facade sits enthroned on the hill at dawn. The inside oft he house reveals an aesthetic living environment, where everyday life is staged within an exotic scenery of individual fantasies. Domestic automation happens parallel to the residents’ daily routine and grants the place a life of its own.

Ocean Hill Drive / 16mm to DCP / English / 21’ / 2016

OCEAN HILL DRIVE examines a rare phenomenon, the so-called ‚shadowflicker’, that occurs in a suburban area on the outskirts of Boston. As a result of an erroneously installed wind turbine, the flicker effect, which brings to mind structuralist experimental cinema , appears instead in documentary images showing the landscape and architecture of a Massachusetts coast town. The film focuses on the visual quality of the pulsating shadows that intrude the suburban domestic sphere and disrupt the social and psychological equilibrium of the community. Documentary images are complemented with a female voiceover, which is based on multiple interviews that were transcripted and assembled into a single narration. The film slowly uncovers fragmentary memories from the time when the flicker began. An atmosphere of suspense and intangible fear is generated throughout the film, while the actual source of the flickering lights remains unknown.

„Surprise screening“ / 16mm to DCP / no dialogue / 8’ / 2024

#2 Labor Berlin programme

where these limits that threaten us begin to waver by Sophie Watzlawick / 16mm film performance / with live music by Marcello Busato / 16’ / 2024

At the heart of the human being, in the air and under the sea.
Beyond these tableaux, the worst is happening.
An invisible off-screen disaster.

Osmose by Laurence Favre / 16mm / no dialogue / 11’ / 2022

A sensory exploration of the forest and the tensions that inhabit it, Osmosis interweaves images of pure chlorophyll and the dense blackness of burnt forests. The dynamics of these cycles of life and death imprinted pictorially on 16mm film are amplified by a soundtrack articulating sensations of anxiety and appeasement.

Land Rebel by Christin Turner / S8 to 16mm / English / 2,5’ / 2024

Winds of change turn the Wheel of Fortune in Tularosa, New Mexico; downwind from the atomic bomb site, a man has built a Buddhist shrine to counterbalance the vortex of power and destruction, with a flower in his pocket.

A running Woman by Ojoboca / 16mm film performance / English / 10’ / 2024

Last year, we decided to remake a lost film by Hollis Frampton called “A Running Man,” which was originally 22 minutes long. We chose to convert each minute of the original film into a 30-meter roll of film and to shoot one roll per year. Last year, we shot the first roll/minute. This year we shot the second roll/minute of the film.

1014 by Deborah S Phillips / 16mm / sound collage / 9’ / 2022-24

My mother, Carol Frieda Herman P. Hirsch, Chaya bas Moshe ve Yehudit, died on June 23, 2022, at home, the way she wanted her last weeks to be. Self-determined, surrounded by majestic trees outside, with birds chirping in the background. And she enjoyed the smells of good food, her music and other simple things as long as it was possible.
The choice to use film material that was way past its sell-by date corresponds with how, as one approaches the end of life, things fall apart, gradually. A tribute.

EMDR by Katrin Eissing / N8 to 16mm / German & Arabic / 9’ / 2024

EMDR- A conversation about trees

“What are these times when
A conversation about trees is almost a crime”
Brecht from: To those born after

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR for short)
was discovered by chance while walking in the park.

El diablo nació en Colombia by Renata Daguerre / S8 to DCP / Spanish / 5’ / 2024

(corre, corre, corre)
Baila mientras corres
azúlame la sangre que me quema
el hielo hirviente me penetra la piel

Kaufrausch by Die Flöhe & Clara Bausch / S8 to DCP / German / 2’ / 2024

A critical examination of the consequences of turbo-capitalism in the mirror of addiction, suction and lack.
