(labor)Berliners, go see Pip Chodorov‘s most recent film Free Radicals at the Favourites Festival. It is a festival of films that have won audience prizes at other festivals, and at this screening the audience will vote again. Hope you can come see the film and vote! Pip will attend the screening in person so it’s also a good chance to meet the maker as well.
Sunday, Sept. 4th, 2:30pm at Filmrauschpalast, Lehrter Straße 35, 10557 Berlin
FREE RADICALS: A HISTORY OF EXPERIMENTAL FILM
Pip Chodorov, 2010, 82 minutes.
The greatest film-artists and film-poets of the 20th Century were free to explore and invent a radical new art form: the avant-garde, underground, experimental cinema. It was fun! It was exciting! It was crazy! But they soon found themselves in a nomansland: with no audience, no distribution, no funding, no film industry or art world to support them, they had to set up their own cinematheques, distribution networks and cooperatives, and these are still active today. A story of creativity, friendship, hardship, solidarity and cinema.
Starring: Hans Richter, Len Lye, Robert Breer, Peter Kubelka, Jonas Mekas,
Ken Jacobs, Stan Brakhage, Stan Vanderbeek, Maurice Lemaître…
